God summarizes the meaning of this commandment in one simple sentence: YOU WORSHIP ME ALONE, which is also the first commandment in the Ten Commandments.

Why is El Shaddai the name of God used in the commandment?

When I first received the name El Shaddai, I asked God what the meaning of this name. . God replied: The God who welcomes you home.

God was referring to the practice of the Jews of putting a mezuzah scroll in their doorpost in compliance to God’s command that this commandment be placed on their doorposts and gates.

The mezuzah scroll contains the full text of the Greatest Commandment (see next page). At the back of the scroll is the name of God Shaddai, which is an acronym for “Guardians of the doors of Israel”. Thus, the explanation of “the God who welcomes you home”.

The verses written in the mezuzah states that if one adheres to the greatest commandment, God promises to provide for all your needs. There are various definitions of the name El Shaddai. The meaning God gave me is the All Sufficient God.

Hence, in the statement of the greatest commandment, God asked me to use His name as EL SHADDAI to incorporate the promise of His everlasting care as well as the instructions that the commandment be placed in the doorposts.
